Background Eucalyptus is the primary cultivated wood species in Brazil, covering 7.5 million hectares. Weed competition in eucalyptus plantations reduces yield and increases operational costs. FuturaGene/Suzano has developed genetically modified (GM) eucalyptus varieties with glyphosate herbicide tolerance (HT) as a modern tool for improving weed management practices in plantations. The first event received regulatory approval for commercial deployment in 2021. However, the introgression of a new GM trait into eucalyptus, a non-isogenic species, cannot be achieved through selfing or backcrossing. To overcome this limitation and expedite the introgression of HT into the breeding population, multiple GM events were generated, in various genetic backgrounds and genomic locations, enabling simultaneous crossing with numerous elite parents. Objective To characterize the newly developed HT GM eucalyptus events and assess their safety for the environment and wood production. Methods HT GM eucalyptus events were subjected to genome sequencing and glyphosate tolerance testing. Biosafety analyses and environmental impact assessments were conducted through field trials in various eucalyptus cultivation regions, comparing the HT GM eucalyptus with conventional clones. Results The new events proved highly tolerant to glyphosate and displayed different genomic insertion sites. No adverse effects on non-target organisms were observed, and there were no significant differences in the soil microbiota or decomposition profile.Conclusions: The HT GM events have been proven to be safe, posing a low risk to the environment, humans, and animals. Consequently, these HT GM eucalyptus varieties can be confidently utilized for wood production.

Neste estudo caracterizou-se as curvas de acúmulo de nutrientes na parte aérea do pimentão (Capsicum annuum L.)e propôs-se um método para estimar as doses de nitrogênio e de potássio para a fertirrigação em cultivo em estufa não aquecida. O experimento foi executado de março a dezembro, no delineamento de blocos casualizados com seis repetições e 16 tratamentos. Cada tratamento correspondeu a uma época de amostragem, realizada a cada 14 dias após o transplante (DAT) até 224 DAT. Nesta data, as produtividades de frutos e de matéria seca da parte aérea foram 51960 e 6135 kg ha-1, respectivamente. O acúmulo de nutrientes na parte aérea do pimentão, expresso em kg ha-1, foi: 247 de K, 193 de N, 114 de Ca, 42 de Mg, 23 de P, 23 de S, 1,2 de Fe, 0,31 de B, 0,29 de Cu, 0,27 de Zn e 0,26 de Mn. São apresentadas as equações representativas da curva e da taxa diária de acúmulo (TA) para cada nutriente. Com base na TA é proposto um método para estimar as doses de N e K para cada fertirrigação do pimentão em estufa não aquecida.

Shoot nutrient uptake curves were characterized and a model was developed to estimate nitrogen and potassium rates to be applied in sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) fertigation in unheated greenhouse. The experiment was carried out from March to December using a randomized blocks design with 16 treatments and 6 replicates. Each treatment corresponded to a sampling time accomplished every 14 days from transplanting (DAT) up to 224 DAT. At that time, fruit yield and shoot dry weight were 51960 and 6130 kg ha-1 respectively. Total nutrient accumulation in the shoot, expressed in kg ha-1, was: 247 for K, 193 for N, 114 for Ca, 42 for Mg, 23 for P, 23 for S, 1.2 for Fe, 0,31 for B, 0.29 for Cu, 0.27 for Zn and 0,26 for Mn. Uptake curves and uptake rates (TA) are presented for each nutrient. Based upon TA, a model is proposed to estimate N and K rates to apply in pepper plant fertigation in unheated greenhouse.
